How to play
The rules, the difficulty colors, every kind of category, and some strategy for the trickier days.
The rules
- The board shows sixteen champions from Teamfight Tactics Set 18: Enchanted Wilds.
- Hidden among them are four groups of four. Each group shares one specific connection.
- Select four champions and press Submit. If all four belong to the same group, the group locks in and its category is revealed.
- A wrong guess costs one of your four mistakes. Repeating a guess you already made costs nothing; you'll just see "Already guessed!"
- If three of your four picks belong together, you'll see "One away...".
- Find all four groups to win. Use up all four mistakes and the remaining groups are revealed.
On a computer you can press Enter to submit once four champions are selected. Shuffle rearranges the board, which helps you see it with fresh eyes. Deselect all clears your picks.
Difficulty colors
Every puzzle has one group of each difficulty. The colors follow TFT shop rarity, so the rarer the color, the harder the group.
- Green: straightforward. Usually a shop cost or a well-known trait.
- Blue: medium. Often a trait, a simple ability effect or some trait-count trivia.
- Purple: tricky. Ability details, augments or League of Legends lore.
- Gold: devious. Wordplay, obscure stats and deep lore.
Kinds of categories
Shop cost
Four champions that cost the same amount of gold. With 65 champions spread over five costs, there are usually a few extras of each cost on the board to throw you off.
Traits
Four champions that share an origin or class, like Riftbeast. Remember that most champions have two or three traits, so one champion can look like it fits several groups. The trait guide lists every member.
Trait trivia
Categories about traits themselves: champions with only one trait, champions with three traits, or champions whose trait belongs to nobody else.
Ability effects
Groups built from ability tooltips: abilities that stun, grant a shield, dash or blink, cut enemy armor or magic resist, or replace basic attacks. Only the ability counts, not shields or burns that come from a trait. When a champion arguably fits, we keep them off the board for that puzzle.
Augments
Some augments hand you specific champions. If four champions all come from the same augment, that's a group.
League of Legends lore
Every TFT champion has a story from League of Legends: home regions like Ionia, Piltover or the Freljord, yordles and vastaya, even sibling pairs that are both in the set.
Wordplay
Ignore the game entirely and look at the names. Some hide an animal or a body part, some are two words mashed together, some are real English words, and some are just four letters long.
Strategy tips
- Find the red herring first. If you spot five champions that share a trait, one of them belongs somewhere else. Work out which before you submit.
- Start with the gold group in mind. Wordplay and lore groups are easy to miss. Scanning the names early can save you a mistake later.
- Use "One away" wisely. It means three of your picks are right. Swap one champion at a time instead of starting over.
- Shuffle when you're stuck. Seeing the champions next to different neighbors often reveals a connection.
- Trust exact wording. "Abilities That Stun" means stun only, so knock-ups and sleeps don't count.
